On Bill Reid

Global Identity

PROLOGUE

Bill Reid was a world citizen. Through his art-work and collaborations, Reid elevated Haida Art onto the world stage. Comparable to ancient civilizations such as the Greek, Indian, Chinese, Northern European and Egyptian, the Haida embody an interconnected worldview deeply rooted in a rich and complex language and material culture. Reid helped to perpetuate an ancient artform through contemporary means, and he inspired a generation of artists to see their own work as part of a broader humanity.
